He has made a list of the things he wants to talk about. 3. Listen again and pay particular attention to the advice Mrs Jones gives the boy. As you listen, make notes to remind you what her advice is. Write down key words only. ? Say what you are going to talk about, say it and then summarize what you said. ? Write topics on the board. ? Use visuals if possible ?Hand out examples after the speech so audience are not distracted. ? Don’t read your speech. ? Make eye contact with the audience and use a conversational tone. ? Make notes to remind you of what to say. Now it’s your turn to prepare a twominute talk about something you are interested in. It could be a hobby or sport, a book or film, a career you hope to follow when you leave school or a country you know a lot about. Follow the steps below. A sample talk Instead of spending your vocation on a bus, in a hotel or sitting on the beach, you may want to try hiking. Hiking is a great way to travel. You might get close to the nature and take exercise at the same time. Hiking is easy to do and don’t have to be very expensive. You can hike close to home or travel to other places. You can hike in the mountains, in a forest, or along a river. You can also go for a hike in the city. The basic equipment you need for hiking is simple: good shoes, clothes and a backpack. Hiking is fun and exciting, but you shouldn’t forget safety. Here are some basic tips for successful hiking: 1. Don’t hike alone. 2. Tell someone where you are going. 3. Bring water and a good map. 4. Watch out for dangers, such as spiders, snakes, or poisonous plant
